Unemployed Youths from SGS and Eskom’s SHE Skills Programme commence three month Internship
As reported in October 2017, SGS South Africa and Eskom partnered to train 24 local youths at its Grootvlei power station in the Dipaleseng municipality, in Mpumalanga, south of Heidelberg, in 12 subjects related to safety, health and environmental.
The subjects formed part of the SGS RiskStar training qualification programme which has been approved by the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management. The programme focused on specific skills and technical risk competencies demanded by employers and included training and mentoring in job-specific skills, as well as work-place experience.
The youths have now commenced with their three month internship at the Eskom Grootvlei power station and have been hosted by several host companies on site at the power station. SGS would like to congratulate the selected Youths for their enthusiasm and for completing the first stage of the programme.
Being afforded this opportunity, ensures employability of the designated youths and exposure to valuable technical and job specific skills. The success of the current 24 youths will spurn a positive change in the community, inspiring other youths.
SGS would like to thank Eskom and the Host Companies for sharing in this vision of creating a better society through the provision of education and skills for the youth of this country.
